Current sensors in the form of current loops or current clamps are sensors through which a power cord is run. The loop and clamp is in two parts and attaches around the cable to be measured. The current passing through the cable is measured using induction to generate a value in Amps of the power being drawn by the connected load. The current sensor is connected to an base environment monitoring device which acts as central point for data collection. Monitoring software is used to analyse the data and trigger an alarm notification outside threshold settings.
Remote Energy Monitoring Systems and Energy Meter Data Collection
A range of energy monitoring units that gather readings from electricity, gas and water meters and pass them on to software platforms and third-party systems, so you can report on and analyse usage remotely. Each Perseus Energy unit does more than store numbers: it logs incoming data, checks it against the rules you set, forwards it to a remote portal and can act on what it finds, from a simple alert to a more involved automated response. The Energy series brings metering interfaces such as M-Bus to the Perseus platform, which also offers Lua scripting and a built-in calendar for scheduling. It can apply local rules, run scheduled tasks and raise alerts, and models with relay outputs can also switch equipment, all without depending on a central server.

Perseus Energy Models
The Perseus Energy range consists of 3 distinct models, including the 240, 242 and 285.
Perseus Energy 240: Modbus Gateway
The Perseus Energy 240 is the simplest way to bring third-party RS-485 (Modbus/RTU) devices into a remote monitoring system. It also works as a protocol bridge, converting Modbus/RTU into Modbus/TCP, MQTT or SNMP so that serial data can be used on your network. Choose the 240 where Modbus meters are already installed and the priority is getting their data onto the LAN. It is a dedicated RS-485 gateway, so it has no RJ11 sensor ports or digital inputs.
Perseus Energy 242: LAN Energy and Environment Monitor
Housed in a metal case and powered from a 24Vdc supply, the Perseus Energy 242 provides an M-Bus Master input and an RS-485 (Modbus/RTU) port for meters, plus two digital inputs with S0 pulse counting. For environmental monitoring it has four 1W-UNI (RJ11) sensor ports and a water leak detection zone, and a single relay output allows local control. The S0 pulse counters make it simple to read standard pulse-output kWh meters, while the sensor ports and leak detection zone cover the environmental side.
Perseus Energy 285: DIN Rail with Built-in LTE
The Perseus Energy 285 is the most capable model, designed for electrical panels and sites where resilient communications matter. It mounts on DIN rail, runs from a 230Vac supply and offers the largest set of connections in the range: an M-Bus Master input, RS-485 (Modbus/RTU), four S0 pulse-counting digital inputs, six 1W-UNI (RJ11) sensor ports, a water leak detection zone and two relay outputs. Its integrated LTE modem means alerts still get through by SMS text message or voice call if the network fails, as well as by email or SNMP trap, and it can also send SMS alerts on behalf of other HW group devices on the same network.
Typical Applications
- Tracking energy consumption to support PUE reporting and sustainability targets
- Sub-metering of server rooms, comms rooms and data centres to measure IT and cooling loads
- Remote monitoring of unmanned technical rooms, edge sites and telecom cabinets
- Plant room, boiler room and HVAC equipment monitoring
- Combined energy, temperature, humidity and water leak monitoring from a single unit
- Collecting data from existing M-Bus or Modbus meters into a modern IP-based system
Perseus Energy Key Features
- Meter Readings Over M-Bus and Modbus/RTU: Bring your utility meters and sub-meters together in one system, whether they report over M-Bus or Modbus/RTU. Electricity, gas and water meters are all supported.
- Scale Up for Large Sites: A single Perseus Energy unit handles up to 100 external meters and sensors and up to 1,000 values, enough for a multi-rack server room, data centre or large building.
- Open Integration: Readings are available over XML, Modbus/TCP, MQTT and SNMP, making it straightforward to pass data into your BMS, DCIM, SCADA or network management system.
- Meters Open API: A Perseus Energy unit can pull live readings across the network from other HW group devices and include them in its own analysis and alerting, making it the analytical hub for a wider estate of HW group monitoring equipment.
- Environmental Monitoring: Add HW group 1-Wire plug-in temperature, humidity and other sensors, and/or water leak detection, to cover energy and environment with one device.
- Portal or Standalone Installation: Every unit works on its own, sending email alerts and integrating with your existing systems. Each can also connect to a SensDesk Technology-based portal for central dashboards, graphs and reporting across multiple sites.
