A Serial IP stands for ‘Serial Internet Protocol’ and a serial IP to Ethernet converter or adapter is a device that converts Ethernet IP/TCP packets to either RS232 or RS495 serial data signals. The device is also referred to as a serial device server. Serial IP to Ethernet converters can be built into environ monitors which may also include a number of digital inputs and digital outputs for monitoring and control purposes.
Serial IP Converters
Serial IP Converters are sometimes referred to as Terminal Servers or Device Servers and are devices to enable remote access, control and management of a serial device (RS232 or RS485) over an IP network, including the Internet. These serial IP converters allow remote data capture and system control using Ethernet connectivity to a local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN).
