There are three dimensions to consider when selecting server cabinets: cabinet depth, height, and width. The first is to determine the depth of cabinet required. From our server cabinet ranges this will determine the cabinets available. The reason for this is that each cabinet has a maximum internal depth. Within this depth the vertical pillars can be moved to accommodate shorter depths. Standard depths include: 600mm, 800mm, 900mm, 1000mm and 1200mm for server cabinets and 400mm, 450mm, 500mm and 550mm for data cabinets.
As a rule of thumb, the maximum internal depth of a server cabinet is approximately 130mm less than the overall outer depth of the cabinet. The best way to determine the depth required is to look at the equipment to be housed and measure or take a depth from a datasheet or manual. Start with the deepest device to be rack mounted, typically an IT server. Remember to add additional depth of at least 50mm for cable bend radius for your equipment power cords and network cables. Fibre cables may require a larger additional depth.
Cabinet and Rack Configurators
A selection of data racks, server rack and server cabinet configurator tools that allow you to choose the right cabinet for your application, selecting U-size, width and depth, front door and rear door options, locks, cable entry points and more. Simply click on the configurator below to work through and select your cabinet which can then be purchased online if you want or we can send you a quotation via the wishlist function. The FS range of data cabinets provide a low cost range of cabinets for smaller applications, the VS range is cost-effective and is designed for server and computer rooms, and the NSR range is for larger server rooms and data centres required more features including wardrobe mesh doors. The AR series is a range of acoustic racks that can reduce noise levels by up to 95%.
Range Comparison and Standard Features
Range | Type | Applications | Front Doors | Read Doors | Cable Entry | Locks |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
NSR | Premium Server Rack | Data Centres / Server Rooms | Single Mesh (Wardrobe option) | Wardrobe Mesh (Single Mesh option) | Top (Bottom option) | Swing Handles with Key Lock (Combination Lock option) |
VS | Value Server Rack | Server / Computer Rooms | Toughened Bronzed Glass, Mesh or Steel Vented | Perforated, Mesh or Steel Vented | Bottom (Top option) | Slam Latch with Key Lock |
FS | Free Standing Data Cabinet | Data, Comms, Audio Visual, IT, Networking Equipment | Standard Glass, Mesh or Steel Vented | Mesh or Steel Vented | Bottom (Top option) | Slam Latch with Key Lock |
The NSR range uses a thicker steel than the VS and FS racks and is designed for data centre environments. The Value and Data cabinets are for smaller installations in server rooms, comms rooms and areas needing to house a range of data, comms, AV and IT devices.
The Mesh door uses Airtech Hex Mesh for maximum air flow for cooling. The cable entry points uses brush strips wide enough to take a 32A commando plug. Extra wide cable entry points can be made to order.
A set of tandard castors are attached to each cabinet (up to 160kg). These can be changed for a set of "heavy duty:/heavy-duty-castors. The heavy duty castors can carry up to 210kg per cabinet and the extra heavy-duty castors up to 450kg.
Maximum Usable Internal Depths
Each cabinet or rack will have a maximum internal usable depth which will be shorter than the cabinet overall external depth. The maximum internal depth is shown on each product page or configurator. The typical maximum internal depth is 130mm less than the overall external depth. Please ensure that you add at least 30-50mm for cable bend radius to the depth of your deepest device when selecting a suitable cabinet.
600 and 800mm Wide Cabinets
All our cabinets are available in 600mm or 800mm widths. The 800mm wide cabinets have extra space, either side of the vertical pillars (standard 19inch rack width: 482.6mm) for cable management. If you order an 800mm wide cabinet or a large U-height cabinet i.e. 42-47U, please ensure that the cabinet can be moved through any doorways (or lifts) to its installation position.
