Distribution Warehouse Monitoring Software

This demo shows how wireless sensors can be used to watch over a distribution warehouse, including its cold store, racking, loading dock, forklift charging area, sprinkler pump room and site office. It uses the AKCP sensorProbe Wireless Tunnel system. Five battery-backed wireless connectors around the building send readings over a private LoRa network to a single Wireless Tunnel server in the site office, so no sensor cabling has to run across the warehouse. We have set up 12 sensors. Select each one to see the alarm condition, the readings, the route the alert takes from connector to server, and the alert sent to your team by email and SMS. Alerts can also go into your building management or network monitoring system by SNMP, MQTT or Modbus, and security and smoke alarms set off an on-site siren and strobe. We show 12 sensors here, but most clients start with one or more of the most important: temperature, humidity and water leak detection.

Typical Distribution Warehouse Problems

Warehouses are large, busy and often empty overnight and at weekends, so problems can run for hours before anyone notices. Catastrophic losses rarely happen without warning signs that automated monitoring could have picked up. A chiller fault or a cold store door left open lets chilled stock warm up and go out of range. In a heatwave, sun on the roof pushes temperatures at the top of the racking above the limits for medicines, food and cosmetics, while damp weather and open dock doors raise humidity that softens packaging. Roof leaks soak pallets of stock, and a tripped breaker on the charging circuit leaves the morning shift with flat forklifts. Dock doors opened after hours and movement in the building can mean theft. Smoke from battery chargers, a falling sprinkler tank level or water in the pump room can put the whole site at risk. Our systems capture data, compare it automatically with thresholds and send alerts to predefined contact lists. That gives you time to respond, correct the problem and protect your stock before it becomes a loss, an insurance claim or a failed audit.

AKCP Quicklime Monitoring Software

Quicklime is a powerful, centralised monitoring and management platform for critical warehouse and distribution environments from AKCP. The software provides a single user interface for monitoring sensor data collected from AKCP sensorProbe+ base units such as the SPX8, from across your infrastructure, helping you to quickly identify environmental, power, cooling and security issues. The software has several price levels, ranging from the number of sensors (physical and virtual) monitored through to connection to an AI model for sensor data analysis.

Wireless monitoring with no sensor cabling

The demo uses the AKCP sensorProbe Wireless Tunnel connector and Wireless Tunnel server, which form a private LoRa network across your site.

  • CONNECTORSUp to 4 AKCP sensors plug into each Wireless Tunnel connector, powered by USB with batteries as backup.
  • SERVERCollects readings from up to 30 connectors, or 120 sensors, with no cloud service or third-party software needed.
  • RANGEUp to 3 km in open space, so one server can cover large warehouses, yards and outbuildings.
  • SENSORSTemperature, humidity, water leak, dry contacts for doors, motion, smoke, AC and DC voltage, airflow, tank depth and more.

Alerts and integration

The server sends alerts the moment a reading crosses its threshold, and passes data to the systems you already use.

  • EMAILTo duty managers, maintenance teams and shared mailboxes.
  • SMSStraight to phones through the server's optional 4G modem.
  • SNMP · MQTTInto your network monitoring or building management system, with Modbus also supported.
  • AKCPRO SERVEROptional software for dashboards, maps and reports across several sites, on-premises or in the cloud.
  • SIREN + STROBEAKCP sirens and strobes on site for smoke and intruder alarms.

Do You Want This System Monitoring Your Warehouse or Distribution Centre?

This configuration is typical of the wireless monitoring systems we supply for warehouses and distribution centres. They watch over storage conditions, critical plant and site security, and give you a full overview of your site on one of our dashboard solutions. Wireless connectors placed around the building and yard report back to a single server, so there is no need to run sensor cabling across racking, cold stores or outbuildings. Digital and analogue information from third-party equipment such as chillers, chargers and pumps can be collected using dry-signal (volt-free) contacts, SNMP, Modbus and other protocols. We design, install and help you monitor the most critical areas of your warehouse to protect your stock and keep your operation running. We work nationwide, with 24/7 service for maintenance contract customers.
