Server Room Environments supplies the complete range of intelligent cooling solutions from AIRSYS including in-row, computer room air conditioners (CRACs), air handling units (CRAHs) and chillers, with DX and direct free cooling features.

What is Direct Free Cooling?

For installations where outdoor temperatures are commonly lower than indoor temperature, fresh air can be introduced directly into the server room room or data centre to cool the equipment – this is known as direct free cooling (DFC). A well designed and integrated DFC system can greatly reduce the dependency on other cooling systems and save energy through minimising their run hours. DFC systems can be integrated with OPTIMA-INV and Unicool Edge units, with up flow and down flow configurations available.

Each free cooling unit is equipped with both mechanical cooling system and free cooling system as standard. The fresh air free cooling is designed to be the primary source of cooling. When the outdoor and indoor temperature difference meets the free cooling requirement (2°C default, adjustable), the free cooling system will automatically bring in outside air to the room and stop the mechanical cooling system, therefore reducing power consumption. When the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor is higher than 10°C, the free cooling system can supply 100% of the cooling capacity, saving up to 90% of the energy requirements.

OPTIMA-INV-DFC and Unicool Edge systems include mechanical (DX) cooling and free cooling modes, together with the intelligence to switch between the modes to ensure the most efficient operation. When utilising direct free cooling, the DX system compressor stops, which has a significant impact on the energy consumption. In recent years, energy-efficient data centres have attracted greater attention and many data centres are now able to achieve significant energy savings through both increasing the IT equipment tolerance temperatures and expanding the considered geographical scope to exploit direct free cooling (which is not only limited to regions of extreme cold).

Chillrow CW Series In-Row Cooling Systems

The CHILLROW series from Airsys provide precise, targeted, in-row cooling for Data Centre applications. The units are installed between the server cabinets and discharge cold air directly into the cold aisle. Used stand-alone or as part of a larger CRAC unit installation, areas of localised high-density heat can be effectively targeted by the horizontal supply arrangement of the CHILLROW units, increasing the capacity and efficiency of the overall cooling solution.

The CHILLROW.CW offers heat rejection through a chilled water medium. CW units are viable where a new or existing chilled water system is available. The heat rejection configuration can be selected to best meet the needs of each particular installation.

Chillrow CW Features

  • CHILLROW units are available in two industry-standard widths (300mm and 600mm), and are designed to match typical server cabinets in both dimensions and colour.
  • Service access is via both the front and rear of the units, allowing routine maintenance to occur in location, without affecting the operation of the surrounding equipment or other operational precision coolers.
  • Carel microprocessor controls with RS485 communication are fitted as standard.
  • Options: Ethernet card for BACnet/IP connectivity and Modbus TCP/IP connectivity, Humidifier, Electric heater and Two-port or three-port valve options.

Chillrow DXA Series In-Row Cooling Systems

The CHILLROW series from Airsys provide precise, targeted, in-row cooling for Data Centre applications. The CHILLROW.DXA offers heat rejection through DXA refrigeration. DXA units eliminate the risk of water leakage and can provide some level of redundancy. The heat rejection configuration can be selected to best meet the needs of each particular installation.

Chillrow DXA Features:

  • CHILLROW units are available in two industry-standard widths (300mm and 600mm), and are designed to match typical server cabinets in both dimensions and colour.

Optima FC-DXW Series DX Cooling Systems

The OPTIMA product family from Airsys is designed specifically for use within small, medium and large data centres, as well as for process and cleanroom applications.

OPTIMA units combine precise temperature and humidity control with outstanding reliability. OPTIMA INV-DXW is a DX water-cooled system that is optimised to deliver energy efficient solutions utilising EC fan and inverter compressor technology as standard. The water-cooled direct expansion system (DXW) operates similarly to the air-cooled system, however the refrigerant transfers the rejected heat to water via a plate heat exchanger, which is then discharged to the outside air via a dry cooler or cooling tower.

The FC.DXW unit is a single-circuit system combining DXW mechanical cooling with indirect free cooling (FC); the two cooling modes share the same water system. When there is a call for cooling, and the difference between indoor and ambient temperatures is acceptable, the FC unit will run to provide indirect free cooling through rejecting heat via a dry cooler. Only when free cooling capacity is insufficient to meet the cooling demand, will the DXW unit start up mechanical cooling. Reduced run hours of the DXW system through the use of the FC unit, allows the client to exploit low ambient conditions and maximise energy savings.

Optima FC-DXW Features

  • Supply air arrangements include top discharge (up flow) or bottom discharge (down flow). These arrangements ensure all ICT installation requirements can be met.
  • Effective group control and rotation functions.
  • ECDC variable speed fans and compressors fitted as standard.
  • Carel microprocessor controls with RS485 communication are fitted as standard.
  • Indirect free cooling water coil.
  • Options: Matched dry cooler and PUG pump kit available, Energy-saving running modes: There are two running modes available. Standard Running Mode where, the temperature and humidity are controlled within narrower ranges; or Energy Saving Mode: where energy savings can be achieved through allowing the temperature and humidity to be controlled within wider ranges, Humidifier, Electric heater and Supply air plenums
