The term ‘remote hands’ refer to a service offered by data centre providers who provide IT management and maintenance tasks, either directly or sub-contracted through companies such as Server Room Environments, within or remote to the facility to clients using engineers and technicians provided by the data centre provider. Typical examples include power cycling, remote reboots, network router and switch configuration, reporting on performance and some physical services including cable management, inventory management & labelling, and audits.

The term ‘smart hands’ refers to services offered by data centre providers, either directly or sub-contracted through companies such as Server Room Environments, providing more complex IT management and maintenance tasks clients IT and servers using onsite engineers and technicians. Typical examples include firewall configurations, complex cable management, physical server placement and installation, operating system installation and updates, racking and stacking, the setup and maintenance of backup services, threat detection and responses including cyber security.
