FAQs - UPS Power Services
Frequently asked questions on the UPS power services we provide to install and maintain uninterruptible power supplies and generators and ensure they are always ready for a power outage.
We always recommend a site survey if you are planning a new UPS system or upgrade. A member of our Projects Team will visit your site to assess the installation infrastructure for the electrical works, location, access, security and environmental factors, and provide a costed proposal for your consideration. For an existing UPS or generator we will carry out a health check to see if the batteries or any other consumables require replacement.
A load bank applies a restive or capacitive electrical load to your UPS or generator. Load bank testing can be used during commissioning and FAT (factory acceptance tests) and preventative maintenance visits. The use of a load bank ensures your critical IT loads are not used (or put at risk) to test the UPS system. Load banks are rated in kW and will give out heat when used. They are typically used during hire periods placed outside the server room or data centre, on long cable runs, so as not to add to the local cooling requirements. Resistive load banks are typically used for UPS and generator testing.
We provide a complete mult-makes UPS service and maintenance contracts. Our UPS engineers undertake UPS maintenance, generator and battery replacmementw work on a range of systems from manufacturers including APC, Borri, Eaton, Legrand, Liebert, Riello, Socomec, Tecnoware and Vertiv. We can take over the maintenance forfan existing UPS, subject to site survey. We usually start with a health check to record its condition and identify any remedial works required before placing on one of our maintenance contracts.
