What is Power Compute Effectiveness (PCE)?
Power Compute Effectiveness is a metric used in data centres and server rooms to evaluate the effectiveness of installed power capacity to actual compute power as a ratio. The metric is becoming more widely used in datacentres running AI hardware where power consumption is high and there is the need to understand how much of the available power is used productively in terms of computing power. A high PCE ratio indicates that a large portion of the power supplied in a data centre is being used for IT equipment. A PCE ratio can contribute to the greater understanding of the sustainability and energy effectiveness of a datacentre operation.
