Server Room and Data Centre Monitoring Software
This demo shows how sensors can be used to watch over key factors within a server room or data centre. We have set up 13 physical and 2 virtual sensors. Select each to see the alarm condition, readings and alert that will go out to your team via email, sms, phone Call, SNMP and other communications protocols. The alarms are also audible (turn on or off) and there is a beacon outside the room to alert passersby and security guards. Please note that whilst we show 15 sensors, most clients start with the one or more of the most popular: temperature, humidity and water leakage.
Typical Critical Infrastructure Problems
It is extremely rare for a catastrophic failure to occur without leaving a trail of clues that could have been picked up through automated monitoring and alert systems. Air conditioners can show degraded performance leading to intermittent or raised temperature or humidity levels. Server rack and room doors can be left open disrupting cooling performance. Server cabinets may also need blanking panels to improve the Delta-T difference between inlet and outlet temperatures. Poorly performing air conditioning can also lead to increased humidity, as can small leaks within the room, or in ceiling voids or under raised access floors. Our systems capture data, automatically compare to thresholds and send alerts to predefined contact lists. They give you time to respond, correct and prevent a situation before it becomes worse and disrupts operations.

Alerts reach people and systems
Every alarm goes to the people on call and to the systems you already run, at the same time.
- Email, SMS, APPTo all 5 on-call contacts, with escalation if nobody acknowledges.
- SNMP TrapsInto your network monitoring system alongside your switches and servers.
- BACNETInto the building management system, so facilities see it too.
- MQTTSEncrypted messages to dashboards and IoT platforms.
- Signal ContactsVolt-free outputs to trigger other alarm panels and equipment.
- Strobe + SirenA light tower outside the door flashes and sounds, so anyone passing knows there is a problem.
Virtual sensors for kit you already own
Your UPS, standby generator and air conditioning already raise alarms when something is wrong. Virtual sensors read that information straight from the equipment's communications card, with no extra hardware in the room.
- UPS via SNMP GETMains status, load, battery charge and runtime left, read from the UPS network card.
- AIR CON via MODBUSSupply and return temperatures, fan and compressor state, and the unit's own alarms.
- GENERATOR via MODBUSRunning state, load, fuel level, starter battery, coolant temperature, run hours and the controller's own alarms.
- Other DevicesOther third-party equipment that supports SNMP or Modbus can be added the same way.
Virtual sensors have a dashed outline on the plan.

AKCP Quicklime Monitoring Software
Quicklime is a powerful, centralised monitoring and management platform for critical server rooms and data centre environments from AKCP. The software provides a single user interface for monitoring sensor data collected from AKCP sensorProbe+ base units such as the SPX8, from across your infrastructure, helping you to quickly identify environmental, power, cooling and security issues. The software has several price levels which reflect the number of sensors (physical and virtual) being monitored through to connection to an AI model for sensor data analysis.
Do You Want to Learn More Abour How We Protect and Monitor Server Rooms and Data Centres?
This configuration is typical of the monitoring systems we supply for server rooms and data centres to watch over environmental conditions and third-party systems including uninterruptible power supplies, air conditioners, air handling and fire suppression systems. We can also bring in information from energy meters, LV switchgear, generators and PDUs to give you a full overview of your site and display this on one of our dashboard solutions. Digital and analogue information from third-party devices can be collected using dry-signal (volt-free) contacts, SNMP or Modbus and other protocols. We design, install and help you monitor the most critical aspects of your server room or data centre facility to keep your business and organisation resilient. We work nationwide, with 24/7 service for maintenance contract customers. For more information please contact our Projects team.
